Since its inauguration on 19 May 2006, the Mercedes-Benz Museum has set the standard with its exhibition and diverse programme of events. It has so far welcomed over seven million visitors from more than 170 countries – reason enough to celebrate. The two-day party on the first weekend in June, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on both days (from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. in the outside area on the Sunday), will be held in and around the Museum as well as in Mercedes-Benz’s adjacent Stuttgart branch, in Mercedesstrasse and on the green area opposite. The weekend marks the climax of an anniversary programme spanning the whole of 2016.
A lively review of the 130-year history of the brand, and thus of the automobile itself, will be given on the Saturday by two parades of Mercedes-Benz vehicles on the open-air stage at the Museum. These will include some very special automotive treasures, such as the Mercedes Simplex from 1904, representatives of the early Mercedes models, the historic W 196 Silver Arrow with starting number “658” and the futuristic-looking C 111 research vehicle in orange-metallic.
From 11 a.m., there will be a parade with the themes “Icons of Mercedes-Benz history”, “The dream of open-top motoring”, “20 years of the SLK” and “Fascination AMG”. Starting at 2.30 p.m., there will be a second drive-past by “Icons of Mercedes-Benz history”, followed by the themes “E-Class masterpieces”, “Timeless – Mercedes-Benz SL” and “Fascination AMG”. Some of the vehicles will be driven and presented by surprise celebrity guests. Afterwards, there will be an autograph session with singer and Brand Ambassador Grace Capristo. Excerpts from the vehicle parades will be relayed to the screen on the nearby show stage. Between the two parades, the vehicles will be on display and can be experienced in the pit walk.
Driving is in the brand genes of the inventor of the automobile. This will be demonstrated at the anniversary weekend by an off-road course at the Mercedes-Benz branch, the show course of the Unimog Museum, the car2go skill course, a smart turning-circle course and rides on the Mercedes-Benz test track (Saturday) and in the Benz patent motor car (Sunday). The Mercedes-Benz Museum is also going mobile on the gastronomic front with a Food Truck Festival in the outside area on both days. These individual mobile restaurants offer a wide and diverse range of food and drink. They will be supplemented by the catering on offer at the Museum and the branch.
